About IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital (DMH)
Nestled at the foothills of the beautiful Mount Elgon in Kimilili, Bungoma County, IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital (DMH) has grown from a small community medical centre into a trusted regional mission hospital serving thousands of patients every year across Western Kenya and beyond.
Established in 2001 with only 14 staff members, DMH was founded in response to the growing need for accessible and compassionate healthcare services within the local community. What began as a modest healthcare facility driven by the vision and mission of IcFEM has steadily transformed into a modern healthcare institution committed to restoring hope, dignity, and quality of life through patient-centred care.
Listening closely to the needs of the community and local stakeholders, the hospital gradually expanded its services and infrastructure over the years. Through the generous support of friends, partners, donors, and well-wishers of IcFEM Mission, a purpose-built outpatient complex was established to improve access to essential medical services. In 2012, following a major expansion programme that included the construction of new ward blocks, a specialist eye theatre, a general operating theatre, and a mortuary, Dreamland Mission Hospital was officially awarded hospital status by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
Since then, DMH has continued to grow into a dynamic Level 4 Mission Hospital offering comprehensive healthcare services supported by modern infrastructure, skilled healthcare professionals, and strong partnerships with both local and international organizations. Today, the hospital has expanded to over 85 beds and employs more than 120 dedicated staff committed to delivering compassionate, affordable, and high-quality healthcare services.
The hospital now features a modern imaging centre, specialist rehabilitation services, maternity and newborn care services, a growing surgical department, emergency and trauma care services, dedicated orthopaedic and pediatric operating rooms, CT Scan services, and an expanding High Dependency Unit (HDU) aimed at strengthening critical care services within the region.
IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital works closely with the Ministry of Health and other healthcare stakeholders to provide gap-filling services that may otherwise be inaccessible within the local community. Through partnerships, outreach Programmes, and donor-supported initiatives, DMH continues to provide life-changing specialist services including corrective surgeries, rehabilitation services, eye care, maternal healthcare, disability support Programmes, and community health education initiatives.
The hospital’s commitment to accessible healthcare has significantly increased patient access to medical services over the years, growing from approximately 8,000 patient contacts in 2008 to tens of thousands of patient visits annually today. By accepting SHA/NHIF and partnering with healthcare projects and charitable organizations, DMH continues to reduce barriers to healthcare while ensuring quality treatment remains accessible to vulnerable populations.

1. Outpatients
IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital provides comprehensive 24-hour outpatient and emergency medical services to meet the healthcare needs of individuals and families across the region.
Our outpatient department is supported by an experienced team of doctors, clinical officers, nurses, orthopaedic technicians, physiotherapists, and other healthcare professionals. Patients can access general consultations, emergency care, chronic disease management, specialist clinics, rehabilitation support, and dental services.
To support timely diagnosis and treatment, DMH offers essential diagnostic services including X-ray, laboratory testing, biochemistry, microscopy, blood culture services, and other routine investigations.
The hospital also runs specialized consultation clinics throughout the week to provide focused and continuous care for patients with specific health needs.

Eye Service
IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital provides comprehensive and specialized eye care services through a dedicated team of an ophthalmologist, optometrist, OSUC ophthalmic nurses, low vision therapist, and eye theatre staff committed to improving vision and eye health within the community.
Our fully equipped eye unit offers cataract surgery, anterior eye procedures, routine eye clinics, emergency eye care, vision assessment, and treatment services for both adults and children. The hospital also operates a Low Vision Unit that supports patients living with visual impairment through rehabilitation, counselling, therapy, and assistive care services aimed at improving independence and quality of life.
For many years, DMH has partnered with donors and healthcare organizations to provide free eye screening and highly subsidized cataract surgeries for vulnerable patients. Through assisted SHA support, many patients have also benefited from affordable surgery, medication, and follow-up care.
Routine eye clinics run from Monday to Friday, while emergency eye services are available 24/7 to ensure timely diagnosis and treatment for patients requiring urgent eye care.

Paediatric corrective surgery
IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital provides specialized paediatric corrective surgery services for children living with clubfoot, cleft lip and palate, and other congenital conditions. Our multidisciplinary team offers assessment, corrective surgery, rehabilitation, physiotherapy, speech therapy, and long-term follow-up care aimed at improving mobility, communication, confidence, and quality of life.
Through partnerships with organizations such as Smile Train and other healthcare supporters, many children and vulnerable families access life-changing surgery and rehabilitative care at little or no cost.
The programme also provides counselling, nutrition support, breastfeeding support, splint fitting, and speech therapy services for children requiring additional rehabilitation after surgery.
Each year, DMH performs over 140 free paediatric orthopaedic surgeries and continues to support hundreds of follow-up and rehabilitation cases within the community.

Maternity and neonatal care
IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital provides compassionate and comprehensive maternity and newborn care services designed to ensure safe motherhood, comfort, dignity, and quality care for every mother and baby. Our maternity unit is supported by skilled healthcare professionals dedicated to providing quality antenatal, delivery, postnatal, and emergency obstetric care in a safe and patient-centred environment.
The hospital offers affordable maternity services supported through SHA coverage, including normal delivery care, Caesarean section (C-section) deliveries, newborn care, and post-delivery follow-up support.
Our maternity unit features clean and comfortable delivery rooms, well-partitioned maternity wards with enhanced privacy features, quality bedding and linen, comfortable patient gowns, and a calm healing environment designed to support mothers throughout their delivery journey. We are committed to ensuring mothers receive respectful, dignified, and compassionate care in a clean and welcoming setting.
DMH also features a modern Neonatal Unit equipped to care for premature and critically ill newborns. The unit provides specialized neonatal support services including incubator care, oxygen therapy, phototherapy treatment, baby CPAP support, and emergency newborn stabilization aimed at improving newborn survival and recovery outcomes.
To strengthen emergency neonatal referrals and safe newborn transport, the hospital also operates a portable transport incubator that can be used within the ambulance during emergency transfers and critical newborn referrals. This helps ensure continuous warmth, protection, and specialized care for vulnerable newborns during transportation.
With a growing focus on maternal and newborn healthcare, DMH continues to strengthen its services to ensure mothers and babies receive timely, compassionate, and quality care close to home.

Ownership of IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital
The hospital is fully owned and managed by the Interchristian Fellowships’ Evangelical Mission also known as IcFEM-Mission. The IcFEM-Mission is a Kenyan indigenous Christian Missionary society which was founded by Solomon and Ruth Nabie and registered as a society in 1999, Registration Number 19347. IcFEM-Mission has now registered a sister organisation registered in the UK as a charitable incorporated organization called IcFEM Dreamland Mission with main objectives of raising support from the UK friends and supporters for the missionary services of IcFEM-Mission Kenya. The IcFEM-Mission is non-political and not for profit.
Interchristian Fellowships’ Evangelical Mission is a segment of the worldwide body of Christ functioning locally in the villages as a people of God accelerating holistic and sustainable community growth and progress in a biblical perspective thus God with people and development. As a fraternity, we express Christ in the villages through dutiful works of faith in service to God, to self and to humanity while caring for the environment.
The three-fold broad objectives for which IcFEM-Mission is established are; –
- Evangelism
- Community development and
- Ministry to the desperately need in the society.
The IcFEM-Mission delivers her services through a grassroots’ structure of Interchristian Fellowships at village level and Interchristian Local Transformation Units at Ward level all of which are referred to as the IcFEM-Mission’s Field Units.
The following are some of the responsibilities the Field Units have to the universal Church and to the people in the communities they serve; –
- Reorganizing communities into Interchristian Fellowships to foster the Christian identity at village level.
- Training to provide Interchristian Fellowships’ members the essential skills to guide and facilitate accelerated community transformation activities.
- Empowering communities at village level to embrace a biblical world-view to all life and enabling the people to engage each other in love, respect and with dignity and to have a genuine and tangible care for the environment.
- Empowering communities at household levels (especially in rural areas) to respond appropriately with confidence to the challenges that confront them.
- Mainstreaming people living with disabilities (or the people who are differently enabled) in community life and promoting equity, justice and dignity for all.
- Developing the people’s leadership as an inner strength to benefit the community and sustain the transformation process.
- Providing an enabling environment for everyone to contribute or take part in their community development process.

A word from our CEO
Journey from Stigma to Hope: Nathan’s Story
Nathan, a 5-year-old boy born with clubfoot, faced challenges from the very beginning of his life. Instead of receiving support and understanding, his family struggled with stigma and misconceptions surrounding his condition. His mother endured emotional pain and isolation after being blamed and accused of bringing a “curse” into the family because of Nathan’s condition.
Hope began when Nathan joined kindergarten and his teacher educated the family that clubfoot is a medical condition that can be successfully corrected through treatment and surgery. Although the family was encouraged by the possibility of treatment, they remained worried about the cost of surgery.
Their lives changed when they visited IcFEM Dreamland Mission Hospital and learned that, through the hospital’s partnership with Project Possible, Nathan would receive corrective surgery free of charge. The successful surgery transformed Nathan’s life — his pain reduced, his foot straightened, and he regained confidence in walking and playing freely like other children.
Today, Nathan is thriving, pain-free, and fully embraced by his family. His story is a powerful reminder of the importance of awareness, compassionate healthcare, and access to life-changing medical treatment.
